A Flu Season Gone Viral
A Flu Season Gone Viral
There’s no shortage of media reports on the current corona-virus health concern. Whatever your information source, the headlines are similar. This fast-spreading virus should awaken us to appropriate action steps to safeguard our health and the health of our loved ones.
In this day of fake-news, I strive to intentionally seek well researched, as-accurate-as-possible information so that I may take the necessary steps to prepare-prevent-protect my health and that of my family. I’m not one to panic easily, but I don’t want to have my head in the sand either.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
• The corona-virus is a serious concern, however, to date, 16,000 people have died and 280,000 people have been hospitalized during the 2019-2020 flu season, according to preliminary estimates from the CDC for the influenza virus.
• The corona-virus is related to the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and was first discovered the 1960’s.
• Corona-viruses are responsible for a significant percentage of common colds and are transmitted primarily through respiratory droplets (sneezing/coughing). There are currently seven known strains of human corona-virus.
• Symptoms present as cold-flu symptoms and may lead to more severe upper and lower respiratory symptoms.
I’m preventive-minded in most areas of my life, but especially in my health.
I take to heart the saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” What are some steps you may include in your prevention? Here’s my personal list of wellness steps in this viral season:
• Wash hands frequently with soap. Use the 20-second washing method. (you’ll find interesting videos on YouTube on this topic). • Don’t touch your face! Virus attach to mucus membranes (eyes, nose, throat, ears). The corona- virus affect
s the respiratory system, so keep hands/fingers out of your nose & mouth. Use tissues to cover coughs/sneezes, Discard tissues in the trash.
• Wipe down frequently touched or used surfaces with an anti-bacterial cleansing spray. I personally prefer to use Essential Oils.
• Limit excursions to places where large numbers of people gather (malls, sporting events, concerts, etc) The next phase of prevention I’m activating is super-charging my immune system . . . NOW, before any symptoms arise. Here’s my plan to prevent-prepare-protect:
• Cut all processed foods from my diet (there are very few). Stock up on Nature’s Immune-Boost foods • Increase Vitamin-C and zinc intake
• Increase pre-biotic and pro-biotic intake (Aloe Vera Juice and raw Sauerkraut are my choices)
• Increase Coconut Oil intake (high in lauric & caprylic acids, a natural antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral which improves white-blood-cell count)
• Take a full-spectrum multi vitamin and mineral supplement
• Stay hydrated––drink purified water
• Get adequate sleep (this is when your body does its repair & maintenance)
• Get a daily dose of sunshine when possible
• Stock up on Essential Oils
This too shall pass, but I intend to remain optimally healthy during the process and share this information with my friends and loved ones so they too may ride this out in great health and vitality.
Be well and strong!
